Conservation

FoBH support the conservation work of the NT on Box Hill in a number of ways. We have members who are experts in areas such as botany, invertebrates, fungi, and chalkland and woodland management. FoBH also funds surveys where necessary to fill in any gaps in knowledge that would help in the conservation of Box Hill.

The NT can and does call upon this expertise within the FoBH to help inform its decisions on managing the Hill. For example, a joint working party of FoBH and NT created the two documents – the Grassland Management Plan and the Woodland Management Plan – that describe for each area, or “compartment” on Box Hill what is important about that area and how it should be managed. FoBH members now take part in a conservation advisory group which reviews ongoing work and advises NT on priorities for conservation action.
