How can you get involved?
Whatever your skills and whatever time you have available you can get involved with the Friends. FoBH activities include fund raising, running events for members, supporting the NT with advice, and of course spending money on things that benefit the Hill. All of this takes time and effort and anyone who wants to help and join in the fun will be very welcome. Your help can be through technical expertise – grassland conservation knowledge is always welcome, administrative skills – setting up and running the events programme, or helping out on a single task – preparing food for the annual barbecue etc.
If you want to get involved on a more regular, outdoors basis you could consider joining the NT Box Hill regular volunteer group. Although not part of the FoBH, the work done by this group is very much guided by the conservation advice given by the Friends, and the Friends support this group with ad hoc donations to help their work. The volunteer group meets regularly every Wednesday and Thursday and volunteers also go out on other days to help the NT ranger with whatever jobs need doing. Scrub clearance is a key part of the work, but maintaining fences, footpaths, stiles, and helping out at NT events provide a very mixed and enjoyable work programme.
