DESCRIPTION:Amanda McCormick\, NT Ranger will help us to make our own Christmas Wreath and other decorations.  The natural materials will be collected beforehand.  Please bring gloves and secateurs if you have them.  If you want to “bling” up your wreath bring your own materials. Amanda will provide coloured ribbons and silver teasels. At the end\, you will have a lovely wreath to take away. This event will take place at Warren Farm Barns. DESCRIPTION:A light hearted overview of Box Hill’s chalk grassland followed by dinner at the Burford Bridge Hotel\,  Monday November 21st at 6.30 at the Burford Bridge Hotel \nCatherine McCusker\, NT Box Hill Learning and Events Officer\, will give us a talk on different aspects of chalk grassland and what makes it so special in an entertaining and informative talk in the Tithe Barn at the Burford Bridge Hotel. This will be followed by a 3 course meal in the lovely Garden Room. Choices will be available including a vegetarian option.  The hotel is very kindly providing the barn for the talk and the Garden room for dinner and offering us a special priced three course meal. The total cost will be £22 per person for the event. Guests/non-members are very welcome. DESCRIPTION:We will be taken around the new Deepdene Trail by a Project Officer from Mole Valley\nDistrict Council\, in advance of the official opening of the Trail. A grant of over £1\nmillion from the Heritage Lottery Fund has enabled the repair and linking up of\nlandscape and architectural features\, including the intriguing Hope Mausoleum\, at\nthis historic site on the eastern edge of Dorking. The Trail will enable visitors to enjoy\none of England’s great ‘lost’ estates\, including one of the country’s earliest Italianate\ngardens\, now being reinstated. SWT is the largest wildlife trust in the country and manages 5% of Surrey’s land and\, of course\, manages the grazing cattle on Box Hill.

SUMMARY:Bird ringing on Leith Hill
DESCRIPTION:Sam Bayley\, NT Lead Ranger for Leith Hill will talk to us about bird ringing and we will watch while he catches and rings some birds on Leith Hill. Sam has been bird ringing for many years as a volunteer for the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) and has been building extensive knowledge on the birds at Leith Hill and their conservation and habitat needs. Sam has undertaken ringing expeditions to The Gambia\, Singapore and Spain as well as other parts of the UK and funds the ringing himself as well as training new people for the future. DESCRIPTION:We will be walking in a different place this year along the top of the Lower Box Hill Farm fields below Dukes to see the wild flowers there. Ann Sankey\, the Surrey Botanical Recorder and author of the Box Hill book of Orchids will lead the walk. You will need to wear sturdy shoes and walk up a small slope. \nWe will meet by the small car park below Boxhurst. You get to this by taking the Old Reigate road off the A25 signposted to Lower Box Hill Farm and Boxhurst and driving all the way to the end of this.
